What did Nixon know about Kennedy's assassination?

By Robert Manis, The Manis Report, March 10, 2002

Among the 900 hours of tapes released from the Nixon Presidency was this little tidbit about the Kennedy assassination, that was for some (?) reason ignored by the US Media.  According to the BBC News Service:
“In the same conversation, Nixon gave new fodder for conspiracy theorists who question whether Lee Harvey Oswald was the only shooter involved in the assassination of President John Kennedy.

Referring to the report by the Warren Commission, ‘it was the greatest hoax that has ever been perpetuated,’ Nixon said. He did not elaborate why he questioned the report. “

Readers should refer to Nixon’s aide H.R. Haldeman’s 1980 memoir “The Ends of Power.” In it, Haldeman noted that whenever Nixon referred to the Kennedy assassination, he called it  “That Bay of Pigs thing”, referring to the aborted CIA-sponsored invasion of Cuba in 1961.  Haldeman also wrote that he believed FBI director J. Edgar Hoover was blackmailing Nixon about it.

Kennedy had sealed the fate of the already doomed invasion by refusing to order American air support earning the wrath of the CIA and Cuban exiles.

Several of the Watergate burglars were Cuban-Americans with ties to the Bay of Pigs.

Kennedy was so angry with the CIA over the Bay of Pigs that he threatened to break it into pieces.  He also forced the then-current CIA chief to retire.  Jim Garrison’s book, “On the Trail of the Assassins” details how the Dallas Police Chief was the brother of that official, and how he changed the Presidential parade route on Nov 22, 1963 to go by the Texas Schoolbook Depository where Oswald and perhaps others were waiting.

To paraphrase the famous words of the Watergate investigation, “What did Nixon know about the Kennedy assassination, and when did he know it?”

P.S. "According to a 1988 story in The Nation, J. Edgar Hoover said in a memo that Mr. George Bush of the CIA had been briefed on November 23rd, 1963 [in Houston] about the reaction of anti-Castro Cuban exiles in Miami to the assassination of President Kennedy. George H. W. Bush has denied this, although he was in Texas and cannot account for his whereabouts at the time." (Source: Bush Body Count Website)
